Lemony Snicket (a.k.a. Daniel Handler) is Bald Worm’s favourite writer for children.

But what should you read after you’ve devoured all thirteen unfortunate events?

The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black is not as clever as A Series of Unfortunate Events, but it is a great read for Year Three and Four pupils.
The Bear’s Famous Invasion of Sicily by Dino Buzzati was a massive influence on Lemony Snicket, and a great read for Year Six pupils who want to learn how to create distinctive narrators.
The Amulet of Saramakand by Jonathan Stroud is more of a traditional fantasy, concerning a magician’s apprentice and his djinni, but there is a playfulness to Stroud’s language that should appeal to fans of Snicket in Year Five and Six.
